The 21st of February each year marks International Mother Language Day. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity.

The day also brings to light a number of languages which are becoming endangered. For example, many Sami languages in Scandinavia and northwestern Russia and dying out as the language is not being passed down to the next generation.

Should we try harder to save these languages? Should more be done to encourage parents and grandparents to pass the language onto their children and grandchildren?
