€37 million Euros worth of diamonds were stolen in less than 5 minutes yesterday at Brussels airport.
Eight masked gunmen broke a hole into a fence dressed as policemen and carrying guns and took 120 parcels of diamonds that had just been loaded onto a plane bound for Switzerland. The getaway van was later found burned on the outskirts of Brussels.
Belgium is no stranger to this kind of theft, as the city of Antwerp suffered a major heist ten years ago where gold, jewels and stones were stolen from a high-security vault.
Was security too lax at Brussels airport? Perhaps their fencing needs upgrading? Or were these masked man sophisticated enough to get around all the obstacles?
